Russian voters cast their ballots in parliamentary elections at polling stations from the Pacific to the Baltic coasts on December 4. Prime Minister Vladimir Putin turned out to vote in a poll that is widely seen to be a test for his ruling party, United Russia. Opposition figures Boris Nemtsov, Mikhail Kasyanov, and Vladimir Ryzhkov visited a polling station in Moscow to cast their ballots in order to protest what they called massive election fraud, while police detained other members of the opposition during protests in Moscow and St. Petersburg.
