Afghanistan’s Defense Ministry says government forces have killed 23 Taliban militants during operations in three different parts of the country.
In a statement early on January 21, the ministry said the militants were killed during the previous 24 hours in the southern province of Kandahar, the northern province of Kunduz, and in Kapisa Province just north of Kabul.
It said two soldiers from the Afghan National Army were killed during the previous 24 hours.
The statement comes a day after the Defense Ministry announced the end of a monthlong operation in the eastern province of Kunar.
The ministry said 261 militants were killed, including foreigners and Afghan Taliban, and 147 were injured in the Kunar operation – which focused on militants who attacked the Dangam District on the border with Pakistan in December.
The ministry said 17 government soldiers were killed and 45 were injured in the Kunar operation.
