Police, Insurgents Killed In Russia's North Caucasus

PROKHLADNY, Kabardino-Balkaria -- One insurgent and one police officer were killed today in fighting after militants attacked a police station in Russia's Kabardino-Balkaria Republic, RFE/RL's Russian Service reports.

Five other police were reportedly injured during the attack, which took place in the town of Prokhladny.

The attack was against a police station on the outskirts of the town the insurgents tried to escape in a police car.

In the nearby republic of Chechnya, a special operation near the border with Daghestan led to eight insurgents reportedly being killed. In Daghestan, two militants were reported shot dead by special forces.
