The military chiefs of Afghanistan and Pakistan have agreed to coordinate military operations targeting Taliban bases along the two countries’ border.
Afghan army chief General Sher Mohammad Karimi and his counterpart General Raheel Sharif met in Rawalpindi on December 23 in the presence of U.S. General John Campbell, the top NATO commander in Afghanistan.
The meeting came a week after a Taliban attack killed more than 140 people, mainly children, at a school in the Pakistani city of Peshawar.
In the past, the two countries have repeatedly accused each other of allowing cross-border attacks by militants.
Also on December 23, Afghan officials said more than 150 militants were killed and 100 others wounded during 12 days of fighting in the border province of Kunar's Dangam district.
