Thousands of demonstrators chanted "Armenia" as they continued their protest late on June 28, defying police officers' demands that they clear the area. Lines of riot police were standing off with the crowds, but did not move to disperse them from Yerevan's central Baghramian Avenue. Activists have been on the streets for more than a week to protest against a government decision to raise energy prices by some 16 percent starting August 1. (RFE/RL's Armenian Service)
