French Senate Calls For Sanctions Against Azerbaijan Over Attacks On Armenia, Karabakh

Armenian soldiers take up positions on the border with Azerbaijan in August.

The French Senate has voted 295-1 to adopt a resolution calling on the French government to impose sanctions on Azerbaijan for its attacks against Armenia and aggression against Nagorno-Karabakh. The resolution also condemns Azerbaijan for its attack on Armenian sovereign territory in September, calls on Baku to withdraw its troops from Armenia, and reaffirms the Senate's 2020 resolution calling on the French government to recognize Nagorno-Karabakh. It calls for guarantees that the status of the Lachin corridor, which links the region with Armenia, will remain unchanged. The Azerbaijani community in France held a protest in connection with the discussion of this resolution in the French Senate.
