Alena Hnauk, who was sentenced in Belarus in 2022 to 3 1/2 years in prison for her opposition activities, has been moved to a stricter prison where many of the inmates are serving sentences for multiple offenses, RFE/RL’s Belarus Service reports. Hnauk, 66, a former lawyer, has been detained and charged with anti-government activities several times since nationwide protests erupted in August 2020 after Alyaksandr Lukashenka was declared the winner of the country’s presidential election amid widespread claims of vote rigging.
