An anti-government protest in the Belarusian capital, Minsk, was forcibly broken up on October 11 by a massive deployment of security forces. Police used water cannons to disperse the crowds. Belarusians have been protesting every day for more than two months. The protests were triggered by irregularities during the August 9 presidential election and a brutal crackdown on the first demonstrators.
