Congress Votes To End Ban On Gays In U.S. Military

The U.S. Congress has voted to end the ban against gays serving openly in the U.S. military.

The Senate voted 65-31 to end the 17-year-old "Don't ask, don't tell," policy.

The U.S. House of Representatives passed the bill earlier in the week as lawmakers pushed to complete their work before the new Congress is seated in January.

U.S. President Barack Obama said he looked forward to signing the ban into law.
