At a ceremony in Doha, Qatar, a deal known as The Agreement To Bring Peace To Afghanistan between the United States and the Taliban was signed by U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad and Taliban leader Mullah Baradar Abdul-Ghani on February 29. It lays out a timetable for the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan after more than 18 years of war in return for various security commitments from the insurgents and a pledge to hold talks with the government in Kabul.
