An explosion in a coal mine in northern Afghanistan on April 30 has killed at least 17 miners.
Officials said three people are still missing after the explosion at a mine in the Dar-e-Sof district of Samangan province.
Samangan Province Governor Khyrullah Anush told RFE/RL's Radio Free Afghanistan that excavation work at the mine was headed a man named Fatuhallah Karbalai, who fled from the area.
Anush said Karbalai was sought for questioning by police because engineers told authorities that he had ignored their warnings on April 29 about safety concerns and the possibility of an explosion.
