The Georgian authorities are planning to extradite Afgan Sadiqov, an Azerbaijani journalist who was detained in Tbilisi on August 3. Sadiqov, who runs the news outlet Azel.TV, has said he and his family were not allowed to leave Georgia last month. Georgia's Interior Ministry said Sadiqov was wanted in Azerbaijan for "extortion" and issuing "threats." Sadiqov has been arrested in Baku several times since 2016 and served more than a year in prison for his reporting. In 2020, after Sadiqov was sentenced to seven years in prison, the Committee To Protect Journalists demanded his release and called the charges against him "fabricated."
