Georgia's President-elect Giorgi Margvelashvili says his country hopes to sign an Association Agreement with the European Union next year.
Talking to journalists in Tbilisi on November 4, Margvelashvili said he will initial the agreement when he attends the EU's Eastern Partnership summit in the Lithuanian capital, Vilnius, on November 28-29.
After that, he said, "long and meticulous work" will follow until September 2014, when Georgia intends to officially sign the Association Agreement.
Another former Soviet republic, Moldova, is also expected to initial an EU Association Agreement in Vilnius, while Ukraine hopes to sign an Association Agreement.
Margvelashvili won Georgia's presidential election on October 27.
His official inauguration is scheduled for November 17.
