Released Head Of Uzbek MTS Subsidiary Returns To Russia

MTS is Russia's largest mobile operator.

Russian telecommunications giant MTS has announced that the acting director of its branch in Uzbekistan, Radik Dautov, has returned to Russia.

Dautov and some other officials of Uzdunrobita, the MTS subsidiary in Uzbekistan, were arrested last month shortly after Uzbek authorities suspended the company's license.

Prosecutors accused them of fraud while officials also said MTS-Uzbekistan had been responsible for a series of "technical violations."

Millions of mobile-phone users in the country were affected by the suspension of the MTS license.

Dautov was released on August 1 but remained under investigation and was barred from leaving Uzbekistan.

MTS said in a statement on August 17 that Russia's Foreign Ministry had been involved in Dautov's release and his return home.
