GHAZNI, Afghanistan -- Afghan authorities have appealed to citizens to provide information to help solve the case of two dead children whose bodies were found with signs that they had been attacked with acid.

The bodies of the girl and boy, who are believed to have been aged 12 to 15, were discovered on March 30 in eastern Ghazni Province.

Provincial Governor Musa Khan Akbarzada said the identities of the victims and the possible motive for the killings were still unknown.

Akbarzada also said no one had yet come forward to claim the two bodies.

Chaman Shah Etemadi, a lawmaker from Ghazni, said investigators were probing whether Taliban militants carried out the attack to warn against school attendance, or whether a family vendetta may have played a role.
