Sarah Shourd, the U.S. woman who was released by Iran after being detained with two fellow Americans in 2009, has said she will not return there to stand trial.

Shourd, freed on bail in September after 14 months imprisonment following international pressure, said she had been diagnosed with severe depression and post-traumatic stress disorder from solitary confinement.

She said her return to Iran could exacerbate the problems.

She had been due to return for trial set for May 11 with her fiance Shane Bauer, and their friend Josh Fattal, who remain imprisoned in Iran.
