Businesses were closed and curfew-like restrictions were in place in Indian-administered Kashmir after clashes between militants and government forces left at least 20 people dead. Additional troops were deployed in the main city of Srinagar and other towns, and barricades were installed to prevent protests. The violence erupted on April 1 when police reportedly opened fire on stone-throwing demonstrators, setting off a series of gunbattles. Indian soldiers, militants, and civilians were all reported among the victims. (ANI via Reuters)
