A Kazakh bank has asked British authorities to arrest its former head, Mukhtar Ablyazov, over alleged misappropriation of funds.
BTA chief executive Anvar Saidenov said in a statement that "BTA Bank has issued committal proceedings in the English High Court against its former Chairman, Mukhtar Ablyazov."
He said BTA is seeking to have Ablyazov imprisoned for what it considers to be "numerous breaches of injunction orders" made against him in court actions by which the bank is claiming over $4 billion in compensation.
Ablyazov ran BTA when it was the country's largest private bank, before he fell out with authorities and fled to London in 2009. The bank was subsequently nationalized.
