A car exploded in the center of the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, killing the driver, who was identified by police as a member of a Ukrainian volunteer battalion who fought against Russia-backed separatists in the country's east. Timur Makhauri, a Chechen with Georgian citizenship, died when his black Toyota Camry with Georgian plates exploded in rush hour traffic on September 8, injuring two bystanders, one seriously.
