Kyrgyz Uzbek Detained Over Illegal Weapons Cache

OSH, Kyrgyzstan -- Kyrgyz officials say that one of several suspects arrested in the southern city of Osh for alleged involvement in a hidden weapons cache is an Uzbek citizen, RFE/RL's Kyrgyz Service reports.

Malik Nurdinov, the deputy head of Osh's Interior Ministry, told RFE/RL that law enforcement officers were cooperating with police officials in Uzbekistan in investigating the case.

Nurdinov did not specify how many suspects have been detained and did not give the name of the arrested Uzbek citizen.

On December 12, police found a cache of weapons in Osh's Amir Timur district.

Several AK-47 assault rifles, guns, grenades, about 15 kilograms of handmade explosives, and a significant amount of ammunition was confiscated by police.
