Obama To Hold Talks With France's Hollande

U.S. President Barack Obama will meet with new French President-elect Francois Hollande ahead of the next G8 summit.

A close aide of French President-elect Francois Hollande says U.S. President Barack Obama will hold bilateral talks with the new French leader on May18, ahead of a Group of Eight (G8) meeting at Camp David.

Hollande's spokesman Pierre Moscovici said on May 7 that the meeting would take place on the morning of May 18, before the start of the two-day summit at Obama's presidential retreat.

Obama was one of the first leaders to call Hollande late on May 6 to congratulate him on his victory over conservative Nicolas Sarkozy.

One of the key topics in their discussions will be the timetable for the withdrawal of coalition troops from Afghanistan.

Hollande has vowed to withdraw French troops by the end of this year, two years ahead of a coalition deadline of 2014.
