U.S. Drone Strike Kills Suspected Militants In Pakistan

MIRANSHAH, Pakistan -- Pakistani security officials say a U.S. drone strike targeted a militant compound in the country's northwestern tribal district.

Security officials told the French news agency AFP that six suspected militants had been killed early on July 1 when two missiles struck the compound, which is some 50 kilometers southwest of Miranshah in North Waziristan, near the border with Afghanistan.

Washington considers Pakistan's semiautonomous northwestern tribal belt to be the main hub of Taliban and Al-Qaeda militants plotting attacks on the West and in Afghanistan.

A similar attack in the region on June 26 killed five militants.
