Putin Spokesman Slams Foreign Media For 'Stereotypes'

Russian President Vladimir Putin's spokesman, Dmitry Peskov

The main spokesman for Russian President Vladimir Putin says many foreign media are biased against Russia and base their reporting on "10-year-old stereotypes."

Spokesman Dmitry Peskov, speaking on the "Russia-24" television channel on April 21, said Russia must accept some blame for not "telling about ourselves" but added that many foreign journalists don't want to listen.

Peskov also commented on Kremlin efforts to force government officials to divest themselves of foreign bank accounts and assets.

He said it was wrong to speak of the "nationalization of the elite."

Rather, he said, it is better to speak of the "nationalization of society" based on patriotism.

People with assets "must deposit them in Russian banks," Peskov said.

He also criticized the political opposition, saying it has no leaders who are willing to take on real responsibility.
