The Bolshoi Ballet's artistic director, Sergei Filin, whose eyes and face were burned in an acid attack last month, has been discharged from a Moscow hospital.

Filin said he will travel to Germany later on February 4 for further rehabilitation treatment.

Filin, 42, left the hospital on February 4 wearing a bandage across the lower part of his face.

He said he was feeling well and only wished his eyes "could see a bit better."

He was assaulted on January 17 when a masked attacker threw acid in his face outside his Moscow apartment.

Filin says he knows who was behind the attack and believes it was linked to his work at the Bolshoi Theater, but has not revealed a name.

Bolshoi Theater General Director Anatoly Iksanov said he thought the acid attack on Filin was linked to his work with the ballet company.

A Bolshoi spokeswoman said Filin had received threats in the past.

Filin, himself a star dancer, has been the Bolshoi Ballet's artistic director for nearly two years.

He is the sixth artistic director at the Bolshoi since 1995.
