On March 15, the first day of voting in Russia's presidential election, polling stations witnessed a spate of attacks on ballot boxes. Some people burned ballots or threw Molotov cocktails; others used a green antiseptic dye known as "zelyonka" to damage ballots. The election is widely considered to be neither free nor fair and has prompted opposition leaders to call for coordinated protests during the three-day vote.
