The Marem women's rights organization told RFE/RL on November 16 that Armenian police released a 21-year-old woman who fled her native region of Ingushetia in Russia's North Caucasus to escape domestic violence. According to the watchdog, Fatima Zurabova left a police station in Yerevan with human rights activists and is currently in a safe place. Zurabova was detained in Armenia a day earlier on an unspecified charge allegedly committed in Russia, which she denied. Zurabova's relatives, who arrived in Armenia immediately after her detention, tried to "persuade" her to return to Ingushetia, but she refused.
