Russian Prime Minister's Twitter Account Hacked

The Russian government says Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev's Twitter account has been hacked.

A spokesman for the government press office said in a statement that "the last tweets posted on it are not true."

One of the recent tweets appearing on Medvedev's official Twitter account claimed that he was going to resign, saying he was "ashamed of the government's actions. Forgive me."

Another tweet said that "Russian citizens should not suffer because the top leadership of the country has problems with common sense."

No one has yet claimed responsiblity for the incident.

Medvedev's English-language account does not appear to be affected.
