The ex-mayor of the Russian Far Eastern city of Vladivostok, Oleg Gumenyuk, has been sentenced to 16 1/2 years in prison after a court found him guilty of taking large bribes. The Investigative Committee said on January 18 that a court in Vladivostok also ordered Gumenyuk to pay a fine of 150 million rubles ($2.2 million). Gumenyuk pleaded not guilty and rejected all charges. Prosecutors had sought 17 years in prison. The probe against Gumenyuk was launched in late May 2022, two weeks after his resignation.
