Russian Military Officer Wins Lawsuit Against McDonald's

McDonald's officials in St. Petersburg say they will appeal the verdict.

ST. PETERSBURG, Russia -- A disgruntled customer has won a lawsuit against McDonald's in the Russian city of St. Petersburg, RFE/RL's Russian Service reports.

Retired military officer Konstantin Kosolapov filed the lawsuit against McDonald's one year ago after a small stone in a salad he bought at McDonald's broke his tooth. He demanded McDonald's pay him 250,000 rubles ($9,100).

A court in St. Petersburg ruled on May 4 that McDonald's should pay 100,000 rubles ($3,600) to Kosolapov as compensation.

It is reportedly the first case won by a customer against a restaurant in Russia. McDonald's officials in St. Petersburg say they will appeal the verdict.
