Pakistan's Taliban have threatened to assassinate former President Pervez Musharraf when he returns home from exile on March 24 to contest elections.
A Taliban militant, Adnan Rasheed, who took part in a previous attempt to assassinate Musharraf, warned in a video obtained by media that "the mujahedin of Islam have prepared a special squad to send Musharraf to hell.”
He said “there are suicide bombers, snipers, a special assault unit, and a close combat team," ready for assassination bids.
Musharraf joined the U.S.-led war on terror following the September 11 attacks and later launched a major crackdown on militancy in Pakistan.
He is due to return home on March 24 after nearly four years of self-imposed exile in Dubai and London to take part in parliamentary elections on May 11.
