Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy on December 17 said Kyiv will soon officially initiate the process he hopes will lead to membership in the European Union, following the bloc’s decision on December 14 to open such talks with Ukraine and also Moldova. "In coming days, with the European Commission, we will officially launch the process of assessing Ukrainian legislation for compliance with EU legislation -- the screening process," Zelenskiy said in a video address. "We're also preparing for the work on the negotiating framework for Ukraine. We expect it in the spring." The process will not be "easy," he added.
