U.S. Diplomat: Security Assistance Stays Strong As 'Disappointing' Afghan Peace Talks Continue

A U.S. diplomat has told RFE/RL that negotiations are still under way in Qatar's capital, Doha, between representatives of the Afghan government and the Taliban, but are proceeding slowly. U.S. Charge d'Affaires to Afghanistan Ross Wilson said on June 14 that a "forced takeover" of Afghanistan by the Taliban would be against the group's own interests. Wilson spoke to RFE/RL's Central Newsroom and Radio Free Afghanistan via a video link from Kabul.
