Uzbek Judo Fighter Barred From Olympics

TASHKENT -- The medal-winning Uzbek judo fighter Abdulla Tangriev has been barred from participating in the London Olympics after traces of cannabis were found in his blood.

Uzbek Judo Federation officials told RFE/RL that because of the positive test Tangriev would not be able to take part in international tournaments for two years, including the Olympics that begin on July 27.

No further details were provided about the case.

Tangriev won a silver medal at the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
