The Ukrainian military is continuing its assault in Russia's Kursk region, with Moscow claiming it is repelling advancing Ukrainian troops. Ukraine first launched a surprise attack on the Kursk region in August 2024, and Russian and North Korean troops have since been deployed to defend the area. One analyst told RFE/RL Kyiv may be looking to "expand their foothold ahead of negotiations."
