ALMATY, Kazakhstan -- A World Bank team has visited the Kyrgyz southern city of Osh to discuss projects aimed at improving the city's infrastructure, which was severely damaged during the Kyrgyz-Uzbek ethnic clashes that erupted in Kyrgyzstan in June 2010.
At least 447 people were killed in the clashes, and thousands of private houses and businesses were destroyed, including many in Osh.
According to a World Bank press release issued on February 28, the World Bank delegation that visited Osh earlier this month expressed a commitment to help with rebuilding the city's damaged infrastructure.
However, no information was given about how much such rebuilding might cost, or what level of assistance the World Bank could provide.
A World Bank team, including the bank's new regional director for Central Asia, Saroj Kumar Jha, visited the region from February 12-24.
