Air Strikes Hit Yemen Ahead Of Truce

Saudi-led coalition aircraft have carried out new strikes on Yemen, hours before a five-day cease-fire to allow deliveries of humanitarian aid is set to begin.

East of the capital, Sanaa, an arms depot used by Shi’ite Huthi rebels was targeted for a second day on May 12. The explosions left at least 69 people dead.

Rebel positions were also bombed in Aden.

Reports said militiamen allied to exiled President Abd-Rabbu Mansur Hadi continued to fight the rebels in the port city and elsewhere in the south.

Meanwhile, an Iranian naval commander said Iran's warships would escort a cargo vessel carrying humanitarian supplies to the Yemeni port of Hodaida, which is held by Huthi fighters.

The Pentagon called on Iran to direct the ship to a United Nations distribution hub in Djibouti.

Tehran has rejected accusations that it is arming the Huthis.

Based on reporting by Reuters and AFP
