Bosnian Serbs Protest Police Killing

20 April 2004 -- Thousands of Bosnian Serbs gathered in the eastern Bosnian town of Visegrad today demanding punishment for the police officers who killed a man during a search for war crimes suspects on 18 April.

Bosnian Serb police raided the home of suspects Milan Lukic and his cousin Sredoje Lukic. They did not find the suspects, but shot and killed Novica Lukic, Milan's brother.

So far, eight police officers have been detained and three more were suspended today as Bosnian officials investigate the incident.

The United Nations war crimes tribunal in The Hague has indicted the Lukics for alleged war crimes committed against Muslims during the 1992-95 Bosnian war.
