Over 30 Feared Dead In Kyrgyz Avalanche


26 April 2004 -- Emergency officials say 33 people are feared dead after an avalanche buried a village in southern Kyrgyzstan today.

Emergency Situations Ministry spokesman Emil Akmatov said the avalanche buried 12 houses in the village of Budalyk in the mountainous Alay district, some 700 kilometers south of the capital Bishkek.

He said the death toll was based on preliminary information and could change. Rescue workers are at the site.
