Serbia And Montenegro Said To Be On Track For EU

11 October 2004 -- The European Commission says it will put Serbia and Montenegro back on track for possible EU membership.

The commission is to relaunch the Feasibility Report on a Stabilization and Association Agreement with the loosely federated country. The report is considered a precursor to full membership.

The decision came after an agreement on a "twin-track" approach to negotiations. The EU will deal with the individual republics, Serbia and Montenegro, separately in areas where they operate independently -- mainly in trade and economic policies.
