The announcement was made this evening in the Jordanian capital of Amman by Peter Erben, head of the Iraq out-of-country voting program run by the International Organization for Migration.
He said that with some confidence he can say that "around 90 percent or more in terms of people having turned out."
Some 280,000 expatriate Iraqis -- about a quarter of those eligible -- had registered to take part in the election.
