Two Killed In Daghestan Car Blast

19 April 2005 -- Two men were killed today when a car exploded in Makhachkala, the regional capital of Daghestan.

One man was killed at the blast site. The other, suffering severe burns, died shortly afterward in hospital.

Prosecutor Makhmud Isaev said the two appeared to have accidentally detonated a bomb.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the blast, including the possibility that the two were preparing to kill a local prosecutor who lives in the neighborhood where the car exploded.

Daghestan, which borders on Russia's breakaway republic of Chechnya, has been rocked by a series of bombing attacks on law enforcement authorities.
