The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said the agreement was forged at a conference today in Vienna.
Under the agreement, countries should expand cooperation so that they can quickly locate and recover stolen nuclear materials.
It also binds signatories to protect facilities housing such materials.
In a separate but related development, Soso Kakushadze, head of Georgia's Nuclear and Radiation Safety
Department at the Ministry of Environment, said today that Georgia has halted at least four attempts to smuggle enriched uranium out of the country over the past two years.
