Russia Ratifies Air Base Agreement With Kyrgyzstan


Presidents Putin and Akaev at the air base in October 2004 8 July 2005 (RFE/RL) -- Russia's State Duma has ratified an agreement with Kyrgyzstan on Russia's air base there.

The agreement ensures that Russian forces based at the Kant air base will provide security for both Kyrgyzstan and Russia.

The 15-year agreement foresees an increase of Russian military aircraft and personnel at the base.
