Car Bombs Target U.S., Iraqi Forces

15 July 2005 -- A series of car bombs exploded in separate areas of Baghdad today.

One car bomb targeted a U.S. convoy in the Rustamiyah area of southeastern Baghdad. Others exploded near Iraqi forces in the north of the city and in Andalus square in the downtown district.

News agencies report that up to six people may have died in the two attacks against Iraqi forces.

U.S. military authorities have yet to comment.

The attacks came as U.S. and Iraqi troops appear to be accelerating a search for insurgents linked to Abu Mus'ab al-Zarqawi, head of Al-Qaeda's branch in Iraq.

The U.S. military said yesterday that U.S. and Iraqi forces arrested Khamis Abdul-Fahdawi, also known as Abu Seba, last week in Ramadi. He is a suspect in the slaying earlier this month of Egypt's top diplomat in Iraq.
