Putin Holds Talks With Finnish President

2 August 2005 (RFE/RL) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin holds talks today in Finland with President Tarja Halonen.

Putin arrived in Finland yesterday on a two-day working visit.

Putin and Halonen are expected to cover a range of topics including Russia's relations with the European Union and the status of ethnic Russians living in the Baltic states.

Moscow complains Russians living in Latvia and Estonia face discrimination. Putin is expected to ask Finland for help in influencing its neighbors on this matter.
