A senior official from the government's veterinary agency, Mikhail Poberezhnii, told ITAR-TASS that bird flu had been detected in fowl in the region some 2,000 kilometers east of Moscow, but he gave no details on the extent of the infections.
In the past few days, several central Siberian regions have reported the spread among poultry of the H5N2 bird flu virus, which cannot be transmitted to humans.
