Three Police Killed In Daghestan


6 September 2005 (RFE/RL) -- Three police officers have been killed in an ambush in Makhachkala, the regional capital of the southern Russian republic of Daghestan.

ITAR-TASS reported that the three were killed when armed men fired on their car while on patrol shortly after midnight.

Police have launched a manhunt for the gunmen.

Daghestan borders the restive republic of Chechnya. It has been the scene of numerous bomb and shooting attacks and incursions by Chechen rebels.
