Car Bomb Explodes Near Baghdad's Green Zone

4 October 2005 (RFE/RL) -- There has been a car bomb explosion at an entrance to Baghdad's high-security Green Zone, which houses Iraqi government buildings and foreign embassies.

Initial reports said a suicide bomber drove his vehicle into the Green Zone through the entrance. The car exploded as it was being searched at the first checkpoint inside the zone.

Police said three people, including at least two Iraqi police officers, were killed and several others wounded.
