Russian Parliament Opposes Execution Of Saddam Hussein

Saddam Hussein in court (file photo) (epa) November 15, 2006 -- The lower house of the Russian parliament today warned that the execution of former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein could lead to a further escalation of violence in Iraq.

The Duma unanimously approved a statement saying that executing Hussein would not solve the problems facing the people of Iraq, but may create new ones.

Hussein was sentenced to death earlier this month.
