Dushanbe, April 16 (RFE/RL) - CIS interior ministers are scheduled to meet in the Tajik capital Dushanbe today.
Reports say two items on the agenda are the fight against drug smuggling and organized crime.
Last week, Tajikistan's President Imomali Rakhmonov signed a decree spelling out "urgent measures" to crack down on drug smuggling, production and consumption. A legal framework for an anti-drug campaign is to be worked out by June 1.
At a meeting in Dushanbe two weeks ago (April 4), CIS Security Services Chiefs decided to set up an Interpol-style body to coordinate resources in the fight against crime and the smuggling of drugs and arms, especially along Tajikistan's border with Afghanistan.
